The 2018 Women in Science Conference is moving back to Oklahoma City on Tuesday, October 23rd, with Science Museum Oklahoma serving as our host for the event! The conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with school check-in starting at 8 a.m.

The event is free, but registration is required. Participants will receive the following free with their registration: entrance to Science Museum Oklahoma for the day, a conference t-shirt, a light breakfast snack item, box lunch & beverage.

Update (4:10 p.m. 5/9/18): Registration for schools is closed; maximum capacity has been reached.

About the Conference

The free, one-day conference will immerse students in numerous fun and exciting hands-on science activities designed just for this event. They will also have access to the many amazing experiences that Science Museum Oklahoma offers. College and university representatives from Oklahoma institutions will host dozens of interactive hands-on science and recruitment booths, as well. During an interactive panel session, students will learn firsthand about the many science-related professions available. Women in STEM-related fields such as engineering, zoology, and medicine will talk to students about their respective careers. These role models will answer questions like:

  • What do you really do every day, and what is the best part of your job?
  • Can an average math student be successful in your field?
  • What do you know now that you wish you had known when you were 13?
  • Does it really matter if I take that science class?

This brand-new event, with sessions designed and presented by Oklahoma Museum Network and Science Museum Oklahoma staff, will engage students in fun, interactive, science and engineering experiences designed to promote critical thinking skills, science exploration, and self-confidence.

A special session just for teachers engages educators in hands-on science activities that they will learn how to apply in their classrooms. (Curriculum and materials will be provided to attendees to take home/back to school.)

The 2018 Women in Science Conference is hosted and presented by the National Science Foundation's Oklahoma Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (OK NSF EPSCoR) and other sponsors, including Science Museum Oklahoma, Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, Oklahoma INBRE, and NASA Oklahoma Space Grant Consortium/ NASA EPSCoR.

Information about Hands-on Science & Recruitment Booths
Due to our relocation this year, we have reduced space for hands-on science and recruitment booths. A total of 40 booths (tables) will be accepted on an application review basis. All booths must include a hands-on science activity. Booth applications will be reviewed and then the final 40 will be selected for participation. Please contact gmiller@okepscor.org if you would like to receive a booth application form.
