Funding Opportunity: NCAR Wyoming-NWSC Computational and Data Resources

Researchers from EPSCoR jurisdictions have the opportunity to access computational and data resources at the recently opened National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) -Wyoming Supercomputing Center (NWSC) http://nwsc.ucar.edu/.

EPSCoR jurisdiction researchers are eligible to apply for these resources by developing a collaboration with a University of Wyoming researcher. Interested researchers in EPSCoR jurisdictions without existing collaborators in Wyoming should feel free to contact Bryan Shader to identify potential collaborators.  He can be reached at bshader@uwyo.edu

There are essentially two types of allocations, small and large, and three types of resources: Computational, Data Analysis and Visualization, and Long-term Storage.  If any part of an allocation request is large, then one must submit a Large Allocation Request.  A computational allocation is large if it needs more than 200,000 core-hours; a DAV allocation is large if it needs more than 5000 core-hours; a long-term storage allocation is large if it needs more than five TB.

Small allocations can be considered at any time. Further information about small allocations and the Small Allocation Request form can be found at  http://www.uwyo.edu/nwsc/allocations/. Small allocations may be made for resources needed to prepare for a grant proposal, instructional needs, or benchmarking.  An allocation request from a Wyoming researcher can include allocations for collaborating researchers from other US institutions who are PIs or senior personnel on the funded project.

Large allocation requests can be made every six months, require the submission of 4-5 pages allocation request, and are reviewed by an External Committee. More information, along with the online Large Allocation Request form can be found at http://www.uwyo.edu/nwsc/allocations/

An example of a Large Allocation Request is available at https://www2.cisl.ucar.edu/sites/default/files/CHAP_Request_Sample_2.pdf

The next deadline for Large Allocation requests is May 15. Large allocation requests require the submission of a 4-5 page allocation request, and are reviewed by an External Committee. More information, along with the online Large Allocation Request form can be found at http://www.uwyo.edu/nwsc/allocations/.

An example of a Large Allocation Request is available at https://www2.cisl.ucar.edu/sites/default/files/CHAP_Request_Sample_2.pdf. Tips on writing a request can be found at http://www.uwyo.edu/nwsc/_files/allocationtips.pdf. Large allocations granted will begin July 1 and be available for a year; with the possibility of renewal.
