Jones Academy STEM Camp: OSU Experience

Monday, July 11, 2016 - 11:00am - Wednesday, July 13, 2016 - 9:00am

The Choctaw Nation's Jones Academy Boarding School is hosting two separate one-week summer science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) camps for Native American students entering grades 9-12.  Camps will be held July 11-15 and July 18-22, 2016. Oklahoma NSF EPSCoR is pleased to be a sponsor of this important event for the third year of the program. EPSCoR will provide students with the camp's first overnight campus experience.

EPSCoR will provide students with the camp's first overnight campus experience. During the first week of the STEM camp (July 11-13), students will travel to the Oklahoma State University campus in Stillwater, where they will live in dorms and stay on campus to experience STEM and university life in conjunction and first-hand. Campers will fly drones and learn about the advanced equipment's applications for agricultural science and the environment through data analysis. They will  investigate water quality and the impact on aquatic life in a local creek, while a visit to a USDA lab will allow students to explore the science of hydraulic engineering.

Students will tour the OSU campus, participate in a Cowboy Scavenger Hunt, and reflect nightly on their experiences during group reflection time in the dorms.
