Fall 2016 OK NSF EPSCoR Research Retreat

The OK NSF EPSCoR “Adapting Socio-Ecological Systems to Increased Climate Variability” Research Retreat will be held Friday, August 26, at the Thurman J. White Forum on the OU Campus in Norman. The retreat provides EPSCoR researchers with the opportunity to share research progress and develop specific plans to meet identified goals and deadlines in a collaborative environment.
Following a brief opening session, research groups will retreat to breakout rooms where they will focus on their individual study areas. Team members will spend the first part of the morning updating their groups on the progress made since the last retreat. A subsequent brainstorming session will help teams identify what needs to be accomplished and any remaining data/personnel gaps, so they may successfully answer the research question(s) for that study area. Each team will present a 5-minute summary of these findings to the overall research group prior to lunch. Researchers who identify a need within another group that they (or someone they work with) can fill are expected to reach out to that group and work to meet that need.
Research groups will continue their work in the breakout session format during the afternoon. The focus will be on developing realistic research project timelines and identifying one or more decision-support tools to be developed by each team. All study area groups will be required to present a 20-minute summary of their group’s retreat discussions, including developed timeline and identified decision-support tool(s), at the end of the day to the larger EPSCoR team.
This retreat is limited to Oklahoma NSF EPSCoR researchers, post-docs, and graduate students. However, researchers can invite professionals who are critical to the current and/or future research activities, even though they do not receive direct EPSCoR support.
