RESEARCH FOCUS:  Photothermal Interaction of Laser-Irradiated Tissue and Blood Vessels for Cancer Treatment

Oklahoma EPSCoR provides ROA funding to support Dr. Mauricio A. Sánchez, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Central Oklahoma.  Dr. Sánchez is collaborating with Dr. Feng C. Lai, Associate Professor of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma-Norman, on a project investigating a mathematical equation to evaluate the effect of laser tissue interaction of tumors near blood vessels while blood is flowing through them.  Drs. Sanchez and Lai will be utilizing a supercomputer at OU-Norman to perform this important research which may be relevant to future cancer treatments.
