Oklahoma EPSCoR is pleased to be a sponsor of the 2015 Tech Trek camp, which will take place on the Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) campus in Weatherford, OK, June 7-13. Tech Trek is a week-long math and science camp designed to create interest, excitement, and self-confidence in young women entering the eighth grade.

Why Tech Trek?

Tech Trek has been in existence in California since 1998 – it has been a huge success, serving over 9000 girls across eight college campuses. In 2012, the National AAUW in cooperation with the California AAUW decided to expand Tech Trek nationwide.

Tech Trek empowers middle school girls to begin a successful path toward AP science and math courses in high school, college, and entering the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) workforce.

STEM careers provide highly stable, well-paying jobs. In turn, more young women entering STEM programs provide diverse perspectives from a deeper talent pool – a win-win for the U.S. economy.  Members of the AAUW Weatherford branch, in partnership with SWOSU, were chosen to host one of five pilot Tech Trek camp sites outside of California. In turn, they received $10,000 in start-up costs, a Tech Trek tool kit of ideas and training, and the directive to create an educational and inspirational program for young girls featuring math and science activities unique to Western Oklahoma.
